Description:
Friendship Community Services (FCS) is a
community-based, nonprofit organization that focuses on
issues relating to African-American families and youth
in Minneapolis.
Project Description: FCS initiated the
“Creating Lasting Family Connections” alcohol and drug
abuse prevention and family enrichment curriculum. The
goals of the Creating Lasting Family Connections program
were to: (a) increase youth and family participation in
activities that delay the onset of alcohol, tobacco, and
other drug (ATOD) use; (b) reduce the frequency of ATOD
use; and (c) reduce antisocial, violent, and deviant
behavior. FCS received a three year state incentive
grant from the Minnesota Department of Human Services to
implement the program.
ACET
services: In collaboration with FCS staff, ACET
developed a logic model and evaluation, developed
instruments, and then implemented the evaluation plan.
The evaluation emphasized attendance at Creating Lasting
Family Connections events, completion of pre- and
post-program surveys, and youth and family focus group
discussions. ACET evaluated the program from 2000 to
2003 and prepared yearly reports summarizing the results
of the evaluation.
