Description:
Freeport West is a community-based human services
organization that provides direct- services to youth and
their families who have experienced poverty, oppression,
institutionalization, and violence. Freeport West’s
Mission is “supporting the efforts of families and
communities to create environments where all children
thrive.”
Project Description: One of the programs
offered at Freeport West is Project Solo, a program for
runaway or homeless youth. Services offered to the youth
include life skills training, family reunification
services, and educational and employment services. A
majority of the youth served by Project Solo are African
Americans between the ages of 16-19.
ACET
services: In 2003, Project Solo contracted with ACET
for two years to assist in building staff capacity for
the evaluation. ACET worked directly with Project Solo
staff to design quantitative instruments (i.e.,
intake/exit forms, perception and behavior surveys, and
a staff reflection survey), qualitative tools (i.e.,
focus group protocols and mechanisms for monitoring
participants’ progress towards personal goals), and an
administration protocol for data collection.
