Agency Description: La Escuelita is an after school and summer program focused on academic enrichment and leadership development for Latino immigrant and non-immigrant youth enrolled in grades 6-12 in Minneapolis schools. It provides programming in a culturally and linguistically appropriate environment that engages, educates and empowers youth and their families to succeed. La Escuelita nurtures and promotes the many different cultural and linguistic traditions and assets that Latino youth bring to the agency recognizing that they enrich and add to the community as a whole.

Project Description: The La Escuelita Community Technology Center (CTC) initiative is a federally funded program through the U.S. Department of Education to provide supplemental instruction in reading and math to students in an after-school program.

ACET services: ACET designed, implemented, and reported a summary of findings from its Outcome Evaluation of the La Escuelita CTC initiative. La Escuelita contracted with ACET to: (1) design and analyze performance assessments (Scholastic Reading Inventory, Steck-Vaughn Mathematics Inventory) with students prior to and following participating in the CTC initiative; (2) measure student academic self-efficacy; and (3) facilitate focus groups with students and staff. The design and analysis also included a matched control sample for comparison purposes. A written summary was prepared and submitted regarding the growth in achievement that students made after participation the program.
