  Hmong Youth Education Services

Agency Description: Hmong Youth Education Services, formely Lauj Youth Society, works with Hmong youth to provide education programs to nurture and develop Hmong youth. Today, Hmong Youth Education Services is the only Hmong organization that specializes in youth support.

 

Project Description: Hmong Youth Education Services offers five inter-related educational programs with a track record of helping Hmong youth achieve educational and social success and assisting their parents to learn how to work with American school systems so they will encourage their children to value education and succeed in school. These five programs are (1) the Home Tutor Program utilizes bi-lingual Hmong college students who provide tutoring services to youth in their homes and literacy activities for their families, (2) the Hmong Youth Mentoring Project provides Hmong youth at risk of delinquent behaviors with academic tutoring, career counseling, career mentors, and individual support, (3) Teen Leadership involves youth in community activities as another means of preventing teen pregnancy and engagement in delinquency, (4) Touching Technology gives Hmong youth access to computers, software, and the Internet so they can learn outside the classroom and compete with more economically advantaged youth who have these resources at home, and (5) Summer Reading Camp provides activities to improve reading skills between school terms.

 

ACET services: ACET developed an evaluation plan and analyzed the data gathered from parents and students who participated in the Home Tutor Program.
