Agency Description: The Minnesota Literacy Council is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving literacy throughout our state. It offers literacy services for: adults and at-risk children, native-English speakers and recent immigrants, and urban and rural residents.

Project Description: Literacy Home Visiting is a home visiting model that provides visits, access to services, support, and skill building to parents and their young children in the home with the goal to assist parents in preparing their young children for school. The home visitors provide information, activities, and visits and, while doing so, also monitor the progress of children as they develop early literacy skills. Parents, at the same time, learn the key skills necessary for school readiness and learn methods in their home language to assist their child in gaining these skills. This project was initiated by The Minnesota Literacy Council and The Saint Paul Foundation.
