Assessing Your Community Readiness

How are you measuring your community readiness for your program?

One model ACET often uses is the Community Readiness Model (CRM) developed by the Tri-Ethnic Center for Prevention Research, and we have worked with this assessment for years. Recently, we finished a CRM assessment on preventing commercial tobacco use.

ACET took a capacity-building approach to the CRM, equipping the organization’s staff with how to conduct the CRM and how to score the results. Our Data Coordinator, Amy Gustafson, worked with the client in each step of the CRM.

“When you encounter all the steps of the CRM for the first time, it can be very overwhelming,” Amy said. “By breaking down the steps and giving the client tools, it really helped them dig into the information about their community.”

One of the strengths of the CRM is its cultural responsiveness. It’s been used in over 3,000 communities and more than 30 countries, incorporating the rich diversity of each community. “The process gets the community ready to embrace the next steps,” Amy said.

If you’re looking for someone to conduct a community readiness assessment, score it, and/or provide training, please contact ACET at info@acetinc.com. We offer a free initial consultation!
